When They Lost Him

in a freak accident

during football practice,

I thought does pain wedge

people apart? I believe it can.

who drives it in, making it wider?

there is no one. no counsel

can be levelled to the two,

split so, recessed back

in double hurt.

I only have to hear about

this to know the membrane

of pain, how fully engulfed

these two must be, how

overwhelmed

past all calamity

out past

their pacific front

where joy and loss

run as one.
